On Sunday, May 12, 16 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 1737 persons have been stopped this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, 0 persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 9 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 49 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

17 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

At the Riga airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Nigeria, who presented to border guards a forged Nigerian passport, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of a forged document. The forged document was seized within the framework of the criminal proceedings.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 7 foreigners

at the Riga airport Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Kazakhstan, to one – of Colombia and one – of Georgia as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Ukraine and one - of Russia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 2 foreigners

one citizen of Kyrgyzstan and one – of Moldova were detected at the Terehova Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 2 citizens of Lithuania.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 30 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – 15 citizens of Belarus, four – of Lithuania, two – of Russia, two – of Kazakhstan, two – of Moldova, one – of Israel, one – of Kyrgyzstan, one – of Romania, one – of Uzbekistan and one – of Germany.
