On Sunday, May 14, 74 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 2885 person have been stopped this year. 177 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On May 14, officials of the State Border Guard detected 57 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

28 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

at the Grebņeva Border Control Point 1 citizen of Ukraine, who presented to border guards forged Ukrainian driving license, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for using forged documents. The forged document was seized within the framework of the criminal process.

  • 1 wanted person was detained

At the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia entered from London, who is wanted by the Police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to the officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 15 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine and one – of Belarus, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to seven citizens of Moldova and one - of Russia, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. Five more citizens of Russia were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

two citizens of Ukraine and one – of Georgia were detected at the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in visa-free regime). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 10 persons – four citizens of Lithuania, three – of Estonia, one – of Russia, one – of Belarus and one – of Finland.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 19 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – nine citizens of Belarus, three - of Latvia, two – of Moldova, two – of Uzbekistan, one – of Russia, one – of Romania and one – of Ukraine.
