On Monday, May 15, 33 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 2918 person have been stopped this year. 177 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On May 15, officials of the State Border Guard detected 43 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

23 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 8 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Silene and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova, one – of Azerbaijan, one – of Uzbekistan and one – of Kazakhstan as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. Three more citizens of Belarus and one – of Ukraine were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

two citizens of Uzbekistan and one – of Great Britain were detected at the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in visa-free regime, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 6 citizens of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point five citizens of Latvia, departing for London without valid for travelling to Great Britain documents as well as one citizen of Latvia departing for East Midlands without valid travel document (the document is invalid due to a change of surname) were detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 2 persons – one citizen of Lithuania and one – of Ukraine.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 17 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – three citizens of Belarus, three - of Latvia, two – of Moldova, two – of Russia, two – of Kirgizstan, two – of Ukraine, one – of Lithuania, one – of Greece and one – of Tajikistan.
