On Wednesday, May 15, 27 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 1781 persons have been stopped this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, 1 person was not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 10 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 49 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

24 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 2 wanted persons were detained

At the Terehova and the Riga airport Border Control Points, one citizen of Russia, leaving the country and one citizen of Latvia entered the country from England, who are wanted by the Police, were detected. The persons were detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 8 foreigners

at the Riga airport Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Georgia and two -  of Vietnam, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. While at the Grebņeva Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Belarus, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or entry permit; and at the Terehova Border Control Point entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to four citizens of Ukraine due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 8 foreigners

three citizens of Belarus, two of Tajikistan, one - of Kazakhstan, one – of Russia and one – of Uzbekistan were detected at the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the Riga airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 5 persons -  two citizens of Uzbekistan, one – of Russia, one - of Estonia and one – of Kirgizstan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 20 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – 11 citizens of Belarus, seven – of Uzbekistan, one – of Russia and one – of Kazakhstan.
