On Tuesday, May 16, 110 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 3028 persons have been stopped this year. Due to humanitarian reasons, one person was not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; 178 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.
On May 16, officials of the State Border Guard detected 36 offenders at external borders and within the country.
16 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:
- 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected
at the Vientuļi Border Control Point 1 citizen of Ukraine, who presented to border guards forged Ukrainian driving license, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for using forged documents. The forged document was seized within the framework of the criminal process.
- entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 12 foreigners
at the Terehova, the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Ukraine and one – of Russia, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to two citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. Four more citizens of Russia and two – of Ukraine were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.
While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 6 persons – four citizens of Tajikistan and two – of Russia.
Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 14 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – six citizens of Belarus, three - of Uzbekistan, two – of Moldova, one – of Romania, one – of Germany and one – of Tajikistan.
