On Thursday, May 16, 20 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 1801 persons have been stopped this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, o persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 10 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 35 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

22 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 11 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the Riga airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine and one - of Russia, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; to one citizens of Russia, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or entry permit; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Russia, one – of Belarus and five – of Ukraine due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 7 foreigners

three citizens of Moldova, three – of Uzbekistan and one of Azerbaijan were detected at the Grebņeva and the Riga airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the Riga airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia (female), departing for Great Britain without valid for travelling to Great Britain documents, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 6 persons -  two citizens of Lithuania, one – of Belarus, one - of Estonia, one – of India and one – of Ukraine.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 7 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – 2 citizens of Belarus, two – of Moldova, two – of Uzbekistan and one – of Latvia.
