On Thursday, May 18, 57 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 3125 persons have been stopped this year. 178 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On May 18, officials of the State Border Guard detected 52 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

32 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 10 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Ukraine, one – of Bosnia and Herzegovina and one - Benin, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel documents; to four citizens of Moldova and one – of Uzbekistan, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; as well as to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was banned from entry into the territory of the Schengen States. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 10 foreigners

four citizens of Georgia, three – of Uzbekistan, one – of Russia, one – of Belarus and one – of Moldova were detected at the Vientuļi, the Terehova, the Grebņeva, the Silene and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa or visa free-regime, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by two citizens of Georgia was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 4 citizens of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point four citizens of Latvia, departing for London without valid for travelling to Great Britain documents, were detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 7 persons – two citizens – of Belarus, two - of Estonia, two – of India and one – of Israel.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 13 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – three citizens of Belarus, two – of Moldova, two – of Latvia, one – of Russia, one - of Lithuania, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Romania, one – of Serbia and one – of Germany.
