On Saturday, May 18, 37 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 1885 persons have been stopped this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, o persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 10 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 59 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

27 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

At the Grebņeva Border Control Point, one citizen of Azerbaijan leaving the country with heavy goods vehicle un trailer, who presented to border guards forged Azerbaijan International Vehicle Insurance Policies, was detected. The person was subjected to administrative liability. The forged documents were seized.

  • 1 wanted persons was detained

At the Riga airport Border Control Point, while carrying out profiling of passengers at the Schengen terminal, one citizen of Latvia, entered Latvia from Switzerland, who is wanted by the Police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 16 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the Riga airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to eight citizens of Moldova, one – of Bosnia and Herzegovina and one – of Serbia, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; to three citizens of Russia, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or entry permit; as well as to one citizen of Lithuania, one – of Belarus and one – of Ukraine due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

three citizens of Armenia were detected at the Riga airport Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation was not initiated.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 8 persons -  six citizens of Lithuania, one – of India and one - of Estonia.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 24 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – 10 citizens of Belarus, four – of Latvia, two – of Kazakhstan, two – of Moldova, two – of Uzbekistan, one - of Russia, one – of Estonia, one – of Lithuania and one – of Kyrgyzstan.
