On Friday, May 19, 91 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 3216 persons have been stopped this year. 178 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On May 19, officials of the State Border Guard detected 58 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

33 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 13 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Moldova and two - of Ukraine, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel documents; to two citizens of Moldova and one – of Azerbaijan, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. Five more citizens of Russia were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 9 foreigners

nine citizens of Uzbekistan were detected at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by one citizen of Uzbekistan was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia, departing for London without valid for travelling to Great Britain document, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 1 citizen of Latvia.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 24 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – seven citizens of Moldova, four – of Belarus, three – of Latvia, two – of Russia, two – of Ukraine, two – of Uzbekistan, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Kirgizstan, one – of Turkey and one – of Germany.
