On Sunday, May 19, 5 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 1890 persons have been stopped this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, o persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 10 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 34 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

18 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 12 foreigners

at the Riga airport Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Georgia, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay; while at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Russia, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or entry permit; to two citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel document; as well as to four citizens of Russia, two – of Ukraine and two – of Belarus due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 1 foreigner

one citizen of Belarus was detected at the Pāternieki Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The person was subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the Riga airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia (female), departing for Egypt, who has prohibition from departing from the country, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 persons -  one citizen of Lithuania, one – of Georgia and one - of Estonia.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 13 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – 4 citizens of Belarus, two – of Latvia, two – of Moldova, two – of Uzbekistan, one – of Lithuania, one – of Kazakhstan and one – of Kyrgyzstan.
