On Tuesday, May 2, 16 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 2162 persons have been stopped during this year. 175 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On May 2, officials of the State Border Guard detected 43 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

22 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 8 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Vientuļi and „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Armenia and one – of Ukraine, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Azerbaijan and one – of Georgia, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry, as well as to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was banned from entry into the territory of the Schengen States. Three more citizens of Russia were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 1 foreigner

one citizen of Great Britain was detected at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in a visa). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by the citizen of Great Britain was not initiated.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 6 citizens of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia, departing for London without valid for travelling to Great Britain document and one citizen of Latvia, departing for London without valid travelling document (document reported stolen or lost), as well as four minor citizens of Latvia, departing for Batumi, who did not have at least one parent's notarized consent for the child's independent departure from the country, were detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 persons - one citizen of Lithuania, one – of Tajikistan and one – of Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 18 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – five citizens of Latvia, four – of Belarus, two – of Estonia, two – of Moldova, two – of Uzbekistan, one – of Russia, one – of Lithuania and one - of Ukraine.
