On Monday, May 20, 25 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 1915 persons have been stopped this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, o persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 10 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 45 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

24 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 9 foreigners

at the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the Riga airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Turkey, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; to one citizen of Kyrgyzstan, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or entry permit; to two citizens of Ukraine and one – of Serbia, as the foreigners have already stayed for 90 days in the territory of the Schengen area countries in the preceding 180 days; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova and one - of Russia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 7 foreigners

two citizens of Kazakhstan, two – of Uzbekistan, one – of Serbia, one – of Azerbaijan and one – of Turkey were detected at the Pāternieki, the Grebņeva, the Terehova and the Riga airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by one citizen of Kazakhstan was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for one citizen of Ukraine.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 20 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – eight citizens of Belarus, two – of Latvia, two – of Russia, two – of Kazakhstan, two – of Kyrgyzstan, one – of Lithuania, one - of Moldova, one – of Germany and one – of Sweden.
