On Sunday, May 21, 19 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 3269 persons have been stopped this year. 178 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On May 21, officials of the State Border Guard detected 44 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

21 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 9 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva, the Vientuļi and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Ukraine, one – of Georgia and one – of Russia, as the foreigner were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay and to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel documents. Two more citizens of Ukraine and one – of Russia were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 1 foreigner

one citizen of Belarus was detected at the Silene Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). The person was subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia, departing for Antalya without valid travel document (the document is invalid due to a change of surname), was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 1 citizen of Russia.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 22 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – seven citizens of Belarus, six – of Latvia, three – of Moldova, one – of Russia, one – of Lithuania, one – of France, one – of Croatia, one – of Kirgizstan and one – of Serbia.
