On Wednesday, May 24, 63 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 3414 persons have been stopped this year. Due to humanitarian reasons, two persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; 180 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.
On May 24, officials of the State Border Guard detected 54 offenders at external borders and within the country.
33 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:
- entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 16 foreigners
at the Silene, the Vientuļi, the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Russia, one – of Ukraine and one – of Belarus, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document; to two citizens of Uzbekistan, one – of Moldova, one – of Azerbaijan and one – of Tajikistan, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. Four more citizens of Ukraine and two – of Russia were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure
- conditions of residence were violated by 10 foreigners
five citizens of Uzbekistan, two – of Azerbaijan, one – of Ukraine, one – of Belarus and one – of Tajikistan were detected at the Terehova, the Silene and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.
While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 persons – two citizens of Estonia and one – of Russia.
Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 18 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – seven citizens of Belarus, three – of Ukraine, two - of Latvia, two – of Uzbekistan, one – of Israel, one – of Kirgizstan, one - of Moldova and one - of Serbia.
