On Friday, May 24, 25 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 2033 persons have been stopped this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, 0 persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 10 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 40 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

19 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

At the Pāternieki Border Control Point, one citizen of Russia leaving Latvia, who presented to border guards a forged Poland driving licence, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents. The document was seized within the framework of the criminal proceedings.

  • 1 wanted person – citizen of Serbia was detained

At the Grebņeva Border Control Point, one citizen of Serbia leaving Latvia, who is wanted by the Police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 10 foreigners

at the Riga airport Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Uzbekistan, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. While at the the Grebņeva, the Terehova, the Pāternieki Border Control Points and the Port of Liepāja, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Uzbekistan and one – of Russia, as the foreigners were not in possession of

valid visa or residence permit; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Moldova, two – of Russia (one is seafarer) and two citizens of Belarus due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure. Regarding the seafarer, a letter of guarantee was taken from the ship's master that the foreigner will not go ashore while the ship is in port. The other persons were returned to the countries of departure.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 2 persons -  one citizen of Estonia and one – of Lithuania.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 19 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – 8 citizens of Belarus, two – of Moldova, one – of Latvia, one – of Russia, one – of Estonia, one – of Italia, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Kyrgyzstan, one – of Ukraine, one – of Uzbekistan and one – of Sweden.
