On Monday, May 29, 17 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 3576 persons have been stopped this year. 185 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On May 29, officials of the State Border Guard detected 52 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

35 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 wanted person was detained

At the Silene Border Control Point one citizen of Belarus entered Latvia, who is wanted by the Police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to the officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 17 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Silene, the Vientuļi, the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Ukraine, one – of Russia, one – of Belarus and one - Tajikistan, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to four citizens of Ukraine and two – of Moldova, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel document; to two citizens of Georgia, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. Two more citizens of Russia and two – of Ukraine were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 9 foreigners

eight citizens of Uzbekistan and one – of Belarus were detected at the Silene and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 persons – two citizens of Belarus and one – of Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 13 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – seven citizens of Belarus, two - of Kazakhstan, one – of Latvia, one – of Moldova, one – of Uzbekistan and one – of Tajikistan.
