On Thursday, May 4, 108 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 2347 persons have been stopped during this year. 175 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On May 4, officials of the State Border Guard detected 42 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

18 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 7 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva, the Silene and „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Georgia, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay, as well as to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document and to one citizen of Belarus, as the foreigner was banned from entry into the territory of the Schengen States. Two more citizens of Russia and one – of Ukraine were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 1 foreigner

one citizen of Moldova was detected at the Grebņeva Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in a visa). Person was subjected to administrative liability.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 22 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – nine citizens of Belarus, three – of Latvia, two – of Russia, two – of Kirgizstan, two – of Korea, one – of Estonia, one – of Serbia, one – of Tajikistan and one - of Ukraine.
