On Monday, May 8, 23 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 2588 persons have been stopped during this year. 177 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On May 8, officials of the State Border Guard detected 73 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

44 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 25 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva, the Silene and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to seven citizens of Ukraine, three – of Russia, one – of Belarus, one – of Georgia

 and one – of Korea, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to five citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay, as well as to four citizens of Ukraine and one – of Moldova, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel documents. One more citizen of Russia and one – of Ukraine were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 7 foreigners

three citizens of Tajikistan, two – of Uzbekistan, one – of Ukraine and one – of Georgia were detected at the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in a visa or vis-free regime, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 3 citizens of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point three citizens of Latvia, departing for London without valid for travelling to Great Britain documents, were detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 2 persons – one citizen of Estonia and one – of Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 27 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – 14 citizens of Belarus, five – of Latvia, three – of Ukraine, two - of Moldova, one – of Russia, one – of Estonia and one – of Germany.
