On Wednesday, May 8, 9 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 1684 persons have been stopped this year.
Due to humanitarian reasons, 1 person was not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 9 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.
Officials of the State Border Guard detected 63 offenders at external borders and within the country.
21 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:
- 3 wanted persons were detained
At the Grebņeva Border Control Point, one non-citizen of Latvia, leaving the country and who is wanted by the Police, was detected. While at Port of Ventspils and at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Latvia and one citizen of Latvia leaving the country, who are wanted by the Police, were detected. The persons were detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.
- entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 7 foreigners
at the Grebņeva Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document; at the Port of Liepaja entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine (a seafarer), as the foreigner was banned from entry into the territory of the Schengen States; but at the „Riga” Airport and Border Control Point entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Georgia as the foreigners, could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. While at the Terehova and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Georgia, as the foreigner has already stayed for 90 days in the territory of the Schengen Member States during the preceding 180 days; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine and one – of Belarus due to security reasons. Regarding the seafarer, a letter of guarantee was taken from the ship's captain that the foreigner will not go ashore while the ship is in the port, the other persons were returned to the countries of departure.
- conditions of residence were violated by 5 foreigners
one citizen of Russia, one - of Kazakhstan, one – of Moldova and two – of Tajikistan were detected at the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.
While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 28 persons - 20 citizens of India, five - of Nepal, two - of Lithuania and one – of Pakistan.
Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 14 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – five citizens of Belarus, two – of Latvia, two – of Moldova, one – of Russia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Georgia, one – of Kazakhstan and one – of Ukraine.
