On Tuesday, May 9, 35 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 2623 persons have been stopped during this year. 177 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On May 9, officials of the State Border Guard detected 40 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

21 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 3 foreigners

at the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Uzbekistan, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document. One more citizen of Russia was banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 10 foreigners

10 citizens of Russia were detected at the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by four citizens of Russia was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 2 citizens of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point two citizens of Latvia, departing for London without valid for travelling to Great Britain documents, were detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 persons – two citizens of Estonia and one – of Russia.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 15 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – six citizens of Belarus, two - of Moldova, one – of Latvia, one – of Russia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Ukraine, one – of Uzbekistan and one – of Germany.
