On June 7 - 8, Chief of the State Border Guard of Latvia General Normunds Garbars met with the Commander - in - Chief of the Polish Border Guard Border Guard Brigadier - General Tomasz Praga.

During the meeting, Chiefs of Latvian and Polish Border guarding agencies exchanged the information about the situation at external borders of the European Union, discussed enhancement of bilateral and regional cooperation opportunities and evaluated the functioning of the European Border Surveillance System (EUROSUR).

During the visit, representatives of Poland paid visit to National Coordination Center of the State Border Guard, Sea Operations Coordination Center of Ventspils Board, as well as participated in a patrol simulation in the Baltic Sea.


Cooperation between State Border Guard of Latvia and Polish Border Guard is based on the Agreement between the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Latvia and the Ministry of Internal of the Republic of Poland on co-operation in combating crime signed on 14 July, 1994 in Riga and Protocol Defining ways and directions of co-operation between the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia and the Border Guards of the Republic of Poland signed on February 17, 2000 in Riga as well as Agreement on Cooperation between the State Border Guard College of the Republic of Latvia and the Training Center „Kętrzyn" of Polish Border Guard signed on October 26, 2005.
