On Wednesday, October 16, 36 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and, Belarus, while a total – 4856 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 21 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 43 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

18 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 wanted person was detained

At the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Latvia entering Latvia from Ireland, who is wanted by the police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 7 foreigners

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Turkey, one – of Ukraine, one – of Armenia and one – of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; while at the Terehova and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine and one – of Kazakhstan due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 6 foreigners

two citizens of Moldova, two – of Uzbekistan and two – of Russia were detected at the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by one citizen of Moldova and one – of Uzbekistan was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 4 persons – one citizen of Uzbekistan, one – of Georgia, one – of Belarus, and one – of Sierra Leone.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 21 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – seven citizens of Belarus, five – of Uzbekistan, two – of Latvia, one – of Azerbaijan, one – of Georgia, one – of Kazakhstan, one - of Moldova, one – of Serbia, one – of Spain and one - of Ukraine.
