On Thursday, October 3, 2 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 4515 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 18 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 46 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

22 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 wanted person was detained

At the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Iran leaving Latvia for Georgia, who is wanted by the police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 13 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Pāternieki, the Grebņeva, the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points and the Port of Riga, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to four citizens of Moldova and two – of Uzbekistan, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; to one citizen of Russia, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid residence permit; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Moldova, two – of Russia (for one seafarer) and one – of Belarus due to security reasons. Regarding the seafarer, a letter of guarantee was taken from the ship's captain that the foreigner will not go ashore while the ship is in port, the persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 4 foreigners

three citizens of Uzbekistan and one – of Russia were detected at the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by one citizen of Uzbekistan was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 6 persons – three citizens of Estonia and three – of Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 18 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – six citizens of Moldova, five – of Belarus, two – of Uzbekistan, two – of Germany, one – of Latvia, one – of Serbia and one - of Ukraine.
