On Sunday, September 1, 8 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 4105 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 16 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 42 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

23 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 3 foreigners with forged documents or with documents of another person were detected

At the Grebņeva Border Control Point one citizen of Azerbaijan leaving Latvia with heavy goods vehicle and trailer, who presented to border guards forged Azerbaijan International Vehicle Insurance Policies, and one citizen of Germany leaving Latvia, who presented to border guards a forged Poland driving licence, were detected. The citizen of Azerbaijan was held administratively liable, while criminal proceedings were initiated against the citizen of Germany for the use of forged documents. The forged documents were seized within the framework of the proceedings. While carrying out immigration control at the the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Senegal, who presented to border guards a passport of another citizen of Senegal, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for concealing one's identity.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 9 foreigners

at the Pāternieki and the Grebņeva Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Russia and two - of Afghanistan, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit. While at Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Azerbaijan, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay; to one citizen of Great Britain, as the foreigner has already stayed for 90 days in the territory of the Schengen area countries in the preceding 180 days; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Russia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 6 foreigners

one citizen of Uzbekistan, one - of Turkey, one – of Georgia, one – of Ukraine, one – of Colombia and one – of Serbia were detected at the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by the citizen of Colombia was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one minor citizen of Latvia departing for Georgia, who did not have at least one parent's notarized consent for the child to leave the country independently, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 19 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – eight citizens of Belarus, four – of Latvia, three – of Moldova, one – of Italy, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Romania and one – of Germany.
