On Wednesday, September 11, 32 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 4245 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 16 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 51 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

24 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 2 foreigners with forged documents were detected

While profiling passengers at the Port of Ventspils, one citizen of Latvia entering Latvia from Sweden, who presented to border guards a forged Latvian driving licence, was detected. While during the immigration control, one German citizen was detected in the Southern Kurzeme region, who presented to the border guards a forged Ukrainian driving license.  Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 10 foreigners

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Tajikistan, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit. At the Grebņeva Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner has a Schengen entry ban (he is not allowed to enter or stay in the territory of the Schengen area countries). While at the Terehova and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to four citizens of Belarus, two – of Russia and one – of Ukraine due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 7 foreigners

five citizens of Uzbekistan, one – of Kyrgyzstan and one of Great Britain were detected at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by one citizen of Great Britain and one – of Uzbekistan was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Latvia (female) departing for Great Britain, who was not in possession of valid travel document, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 11 persons -  four citizens of Tajikistan, three – of Bangladesh, two – of Lithuania, one – of India and one - of Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 16 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – six citizens of Belarus, two – of Russia, two – of Lithuania, two – of Moldova, two – of Uzbekistan and two – of Germany.
