On Saturday, September 14, 40 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 4302 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 16 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 65 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

39 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 wanted person – citizen of Latvia was detained

At the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one Latvian citizen entered from Great Britain, who is wanted by the police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 25 foreigners

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Turkey as the foreigner has already stayed for 90 days in the territory of the Schengen area countries in the preceding 180 days; while at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Russia, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document; to 15 citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Ukraine, two – of Russia and one – of Moldova due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 2 foreigners

one citizen of Belarus and one – of Uzbekistan were detected at the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 4 persons -  one citizen of Estonia, one - of Lithuania, one – of Bangladesh and one - of Ukraine.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 22 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – six citizens of Belarus, four – of Moldova, three - of Latvia, three - of Uzbekistan, two – of Kazakhstan, one – of Russia, one – of Estonia, one – of Italy and one – of Germany.
