On Sunday, September 17, 83 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 8504 persons have been stopped during this year.

In total 333 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On September 17, officials of the State Border Guard detected 46 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

25 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

In the Ventspils Unit, during the profiling of passengers departing by the ferry "Stena Baltica" (DNK), one Ukrainian citizen, who presented to border guards a forged vehicle driving license, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for using forged documents. The forged document was seized within the framework of the criminal proceedings.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 12 foreigners

at the Grebņeva, the Terehova and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine and two – of Kirgizstan, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to six citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; as well as to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner was banned from entry into the territory of the Schengen States. Two more citizens of Ukraine were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

one citizen of Kirgizstan, one – of Ukraine and one – of Uzbekistan were detected at the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free-regime, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 person

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia departing for Antalya, who was not in possession of valid travel document (document reported stolen or lost), was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 6 persons – two citizens Lithuania, two – of Gambia and two - of Mali.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 15 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – five citizens of Latvia, four - of Belarus, two – of Moldova, one – of Russia, one – of Estonia, one – of Mongolia and one – of Uzbekistan.
