On Tuesday, September 17, 10 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 4319 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 16 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 42 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

22 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

at the Terehova Border Control Point, one citizen of Pakistan entering Latvia, who presented to border guards a forged Portugal visa, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 8 foreigners

at the „Riga” Airport, the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Moldova,  as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; to one citizen of Russia, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Moldova, one – of Russia  and one – of Belarus due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 4 foreigners

one citizen of Armenia, one – of Uzbekistan, one – of USA and one – of Azerbaijan were detected at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by one citizen of Armenia was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 persons - one citizen of Latvia, one – of Lithuania and one – of Syria.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 17 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – six citizens of Belarus, three – of Uzbekistan, two – of Estonia, one – of Russia, one – of Azerbaijan, one – of Italy, one – of Kyrgyzstan, one - of Moldova and one – of Serbia.
