On Wednesday, September 18, 7 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 4326 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 16 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 52 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

24 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 wanted person – citizen of Latvia was detained

At the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one Latvian citizen entered from Great Britain, who is wanted by the police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 6 foreigners

at the Terehova and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Ukraine, one – of Moldova and one – of Belarus due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 5 foreigners

three citizens of Uzbekistan, one – of Belarus and one – of Georgia were detected at the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by one citizen of Uzbekistan and one –of Georgia was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 10 persons – three citizens of India, three – of Uzbekistan, two – of Turkmenistan, one – of Russia and one – of Syria.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 18 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – six citizens of Belarus, two – of Latvia, two – of Russia, two – of Lithuania, two - of Moldova, two – of Uzbekistan, one – of Estonia and one of Kazakhstan.
