The State Border Guard informs that starting from January 1, 2025, only vehicles registered in third countries that have been declared in the VAS “Ceļu satiksmes drošības direkcija” [State joint-stock company Road Traffic Safety Directorate] will be allowed to cross the Latvian state border and participate in the road traffic.

A vehicle must be declared before entering the territory of Latvia, and the control of the obligation to declare the vehicle will be carried out by border guards at border crossing points, at internal borders and within the country in cooperation with the State Police. This condition applies to any vehicle registered in a foreign country, except for the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) member states or the Swiss Confederation. No fee will be charged for declaring the vehicle and it can be done on e.csdd.lv without personal authentication, but an e-mail address will have to be verified.

More information about the procedures is available on the CSDD website.

The State Border Guard invites to be familiarized with the new requirements in a timely manner and ensure compliance with them in order to avoid possible inconveniences when crossing the state border at border crossing points.
